YOSPIS Urges Youth to Celebrate Eid Responsibly, Promote Peaceful Coexistence

As Muslims across Nigeria observe Eid al-Adha, the Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) has called on young people to embrace peace, sacrifice, and social responsibility.

In a message signed by the Executive Director of YOSPIS, Zainab Nasir Ahmad, the group emphasized unity and nonviolence amid tensions in some communities.

“This season is a time of sacrifice, compassion, and reflection — virtues that must be demonstrated in our conduct and interactions,” Ahmad stated.

YOSPIS urged families and communities to use the festive period to promote tolerance. It also called on religious leaders, community influencers, and youth organizations to encourage peace and mutual respect.

“In light of recent tensions and ongoing challenges affecting our communities, YOSPIS calls on religious leaders, community influencers, and youth groups to promote messages of unity and nonviolence,” the statement read.

The organization asked security agencies to maintain public safety during the Eid period.

A warning was issued to young people against drug abuse, reckless driving, and actions that could disturb public peace. “We particularly urge young people to celebrate responsibly — avoiding drug abuse, reckless driving, and any acts that may endanger lives or disrupt public order,” Ahmad said.

“Let this Eid be remembered not only for the joy it brings but for the peace it preserves,” the statement added.
