Kano Censorship Board Arrests TikTok Content Creator Over Alleged Indecency

The Kano State Censorship Board has arrested TikTok content creator Abubakar Kilina over allegations of promoting cross-dressing, indecency, and vulgar language online.

Kilina, known for his videos on TikTok, was arraigned before the No-Man’s-Land Magistrate Court, where he pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha, said, “Our responsibility is to ensure that what is shared publicly, especially online, aligns with the moral and cultural values of our people.”

Presiding Magistrate Hajiya Hadiza ordered Kilina’s remand in a correctional facility from June 4 to June 17, 2025, pending final judgment.

A statement signed by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, said, “The Board successfully apprehended Abubakar Kilina, a popular TikToker, who is accused of promoting cross-dressing, indecency, and the use of inappropriate language on his social media platform.”

The statement added that similar actions had been taken in the past against other TikTok users, some of whom were sentenced to one year in prison or fined ₦100,000.

“These actions form part of the Board’s ongoing efforts to reform and curb the display of immoral behavior by some youths on social media, which contradicts Kano’s cultural norms and Islamic values,” the statement said.
