A.A Zaura Foundation Launches Digital Agriculture Program for Kano Youths

The A.A Zaura Foundation has launched a digital agriculture training program aimed at training young people across Kano State. Ninety youths from the three senatorial districts have been selected for the first batch.

The program covers practical skills in agribusiness, digital marketing, modern farming techniques, and other aspects of digital entrepreneurship. It is intended to address unemployment and support self-reliance among young people in the state.

Speaking to journalists at the end of the screening process, the founder of the foundation, Abdulkarim Abdulsalam Zaura—who contested for the Kano Central Senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC)—said the initiative is meant to connect Kano youths with new approaches to agriculture through digital technology.

“With the world moving towards Artificial Intelligence and smart agriculture, Kano, as a largely agrarian and commercial state, must not be left behind,” Zaura said. “We are equipping our youth with the tools they need to thrive in a digital economy.”

The foundation plans to train over 750 participants in total, with the first group of 90 set to undergo a two-week hands-on training.

The program is being carried out in partnership with the London Academy Business School and the University of Sunderland, which are providing international experts to support the training.

Dr. Larry Jones, CEO and lead consultant at London Academy Business School, said, “Nigeria has immense potential to lead agricultural transformation in Africa. Through this digital agriculture program, we’re helping young people tap into that potential.”

Project Manager and Chief Economist, Mr. Anton Scheepers, commented on the attitude of the participants.

“We are impressed with the energy and commitment these young people have shown. They’re already thinking digitally, and we’re just helping them build on that foundation,” he said.

The program received over 750 applications—well beyond the original plan to train just 50 youths.
