29 Suspects Charged in Court Over Killing of Kano DPO

The Kano State Police Command is investigating the killing of CSP Baba Ali, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rano Division, and related destruction of property.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said 29 suspects have been arraigned before Magistrate Court Number 20, Nomansland, Kano, in connection with the incident.

Fourteen prime suspects face charges including culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, mischief by fire, criminal trespass, causing grievous hurt, and theft.

The suspects charged with the DPO’s killing are residents of Rano Local Government Area and include Bala Yusuf, Bala Mohammed, Abdulrashid Ibrahim, Abdullahi Salisu Kere, Sadiq Buhari, Yunusa Adamu, Musa Minkaila, Mamuda Mohammed, Ismail Mamuda, Usman Shu’aibu, Musa Hassan Black, Abdulrashid Munkail, Umar Ado Nadada, and Sabitu Abubakar.

Fifteen others have been charged with criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, and mischief related to the case.

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said, “The Kano State Police Command assures the public that justice will be pursued in this case.” He added, “We appreciate the condolences, prayers, support, understanding, and cooperation of the public in the investigation.”

He also called for calm, urging people not to take the law into their own hands. He said, “We remain committed to maintaining law and order, and ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the State.”
