Reality TV star and singer Whitemoney has responded after media personality Do2dtun (Dotun) criticized him for making a tribal remark during the recent Headies Awards.

At the event, held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos on Sunday, Whitemoney accepted the Afrobeats Single of the Year award on behalf of singer Flavour. However, his comment about receiving the award “on behalf of the Igbos” stirred mixed reactions online.

Taking to his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) page, Do2dtun expressed disappointment, saying Whitemoney’s statement was unnecessary. He emphasized that the award was a win for Afrobeat, for Nigeria, and for Africa, rather than being about any one tribe.

He wrote:
“‘On behalf of the Igbos’ — I’m sorry, that was so unnecessary. It didn’t need that type of narrative. It’s an award won by an African; for Afrobeat and a Nigerian.”

In response, Whitemoney explained that he was merely expressing pride that an Igbo artist was recognized in a genre often dominated by other regions. He added that there was no malicious intent behind his words.

The reality star also issued an apology to Flavour, stating that if his comment had caused any unintended controversy, he deeply regretted it.
