WAEC Candidate Reportedly Dies After Police Open Fire During Yahoo Boys Chase

A heartbreaking incident has been reported involving a student on his way to sit for his WAEC exam, who tragically lost his life after being struck by a stray bullet during a police chase.

According to a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), an eyewitness claimed that police officers were in pursuit of suspected internet fraudsters (yahoo boys) along Old Ife Road when a stray bullet hit the student, who was in the car with his father.

Initially, the witness shared a message of hope for the student’s survival, writing:

“Police just shot someone at Old Ife Road just now. They said they were chasing yahoo boys and a stray bullet hit a child in his dad’s car on the way to school to write WAEC. I hope the kid survives… Why would you shoot in the first place?”
