A heartbreaking incident has been reported involving a student who tragically lost his life after being struck by a stray bullet while on his way to sit for his WAEC exam.

According to an eyewitness account shared on X (formerly Twitter), the young boy was being driven by his father along Old Ife Road when the tragic event occurred. The police were allegedly in pursuit of suspected internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as “yahoo boys,” when a bullet fired during the chase hit the student inside the vehicle.

Initially, the witness expressed cautious hope, writing:
“Police just shot someone at Old Ife Road just now. They said they were chasing yahoo boys and a stray bullet hit a child in his dad’s car on the way to school to write WAEC. I hope the kid survives… Why would you shoot in the first place?”

However, in a devastating update shortly afterward, the witness confirmed the boy had died:
“The boy died.”

The news has triggered widespread outrage online, with many Nigerians taking to social media to express grief and call for justice. Commenters demanded accountability from the police and questioned the necessity of using firearms in public areas during pursuits.
