VeryDarkman Honors Commitment, Funds New Video For Eedris Abdulkareem’s Banned Protest Song

  • VeryDarkMan, is supporting veteran artist Eedris Abdulkareem by financing a new video for his protest track “Tell Your Papa.”
  • The original music video was banned by Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for being “inappropriate and disrespectful.”
  • The ban led to its removal from radio and television broadcasts across Nigeria.

Outspoken social media personality Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has made good on his commitment to support veteran artist Eedris Abdulkareem by financing a new video for his controversial protest track, Tell Your Papa. The original music video was recently banned by Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), sparking heated debate online.

The NBC labeled the song “inappropriate and disrespectful,” leading to its removal from radio and television broadcasts nationwide. This move, however, only amplified the song’s reach on social media, drawing more attention to its politically charged message.

Reacting to the ban, VDM openly criticized the government’s stance, asserting that Abdulkareem was merely speaking the truth through his lyrics. In an act of defiance and solidarity, he pledged to sponsor a fresh visual for the song.

“Dear Eedris Abdulkareem, we’re going to produce a new version of the video, and this time, we’re footing the bill,” VDM stated. “I’ll even appear in it. Since we can’t get the President himself, we’ll find a lookalike for Tinubu. We’re calling it Tell Your Papa 2, and we’ll spotlight even more issues.”

True to his word, on Monday, April 14, VDM shared a payment receipt showing funds sent to filmmaker Shalom Chiki Uyi, who will direct the new production. The payment description read, Eedris Abdulkareem Tell Your Papa remake.

“It’s happening,” VDM wrote, adding that the respected shalomchikifilms studio is behind the camera, with Seyi directing the project.

He also posted a screenshot of the payment slip as proof of his involvement.
