Two Years In, Kano Schools See Changes Under Gov. Yusuf, Says K-SAFE

The Kano State Accountability Forum on Education (K-SAFE), a coalition of civil society organizations and education stakeholders, has acknowledged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s two-year anniversary in office, noting developments in the education sector.
In a statement signed by Dr. Auwalu Halilu, Co-Chair of K-SAFE, the forum noted the governor’s actions, including teacher recruitment, distribution of learning materials, and work on school infrastructure.
“Kano is witnessing real progress in education,” Dr. Halilu said. “The strategic teacher deployment has addressed critical gaps in our public schools, and the distribution of essential learning materials has improved access to quality teaching and learning.”
K-SAFE referenced several policy decisions, including the Teacher Recruitment and Deployment Policy, the Girls’ Education Policy, and the Non-State Actors Policy.
“These policies have laid a strong foundation for equity, inclusion, and improved accountability in the sector,” the statement read. “The declaration of a State of Emergency in Education further reflects your deep commitment to turning around the sector.”
The forum also cited the Kano Education Recovery Conference.
“As a platform that champions accountability, inclusive participation, and evidence-based education planning, K-SAFE remains fully committed to partnering with your administration, relevant MDAs, and education supporters—both within and outside the state,” the statement added.
Dr. Halilu added, “We celebrate your accomplishments, wish you continued success in your leadership, and reaffirm our readiness to work with you toward a brighter educational future for Kano State.”
