Tinubu Won’t Fall Like Jonathan Did in 2015 – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not be caught off guard or defeated in the 2027 elections due to insecurity, unlike former President Goodluck Jonathan, who lost the 2015 election amidst rising violence across Nigeria.
Reacting to the growing insecurity in many parts of the country, APC’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Ibrahim, said the ruling party would not “blindfold itself and allow itself to defeat itself,” adding that Tinubu is taking proactive steps to curb the menace before it spirals out of control.
“If that was what was responsible for the downfall of Jonathan, I can tell you Jonathan was defeated by the APC, and the APC cannot blindfold itself and allow itself to defeat itself,” Ibrahim told THISDAY. “So, President Bola Tinubu is already aware of the kind of problem that could lead to defeat, and he will not allow it.”
He cited the recent deployment of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to the North-West and the ongoing strategic efforts of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, as clear indications that the government is not sleeping on the job.
“In a nutshell, the President will not allow himself to be defeated by himself,” Ibrahim insisted. “He’s taking measures to ensure that results are obtained… and he’s assuring Nigerians that the safety of the country is at the forefront of his agenda.”
Ibrahim further argued that the spike in insecurity is partly linked to Nigeria’s strained relations with its Francophone neighbors, following political upheavals in the region.
“Nigeria is literally left alone to fight this war without the collaborative effort of its neighbours,” he said.
Meanwhile, Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has urged the federal government to urgently work with governors to redesign the country’s security architecture.
The group called for increased local policing, the deployment of modern technology, and support for regional outfits like Amotekun.
Also, senators from the 19 northern states, under the Northern Senators Forum, condemned the killings in Plateau and Benue States, warning that insecurity must not be allowed to become the new normal.
“We owe it to the victims of these senseless attacks to act decisively,” said Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Oluyemi Oluyede, during a visit to Bokkos LGA in Plateau State, vowed that those behind the recent attacks would be tracked and punished.
“Let me make it unequivocally clear that any further attacks on innocent civilians will not be tolerated,” he warned.
Despite these reassurances, many Nigerians remain concerned that if the current security challenges persist, they could have political consequences. But the APC remains confident that, unlike in 2015, this time, the party will not be outmaneuvered.
