President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed Alwan Ali Hassan from his position as Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture and appointed Mr. Ayo Sotinrin as his successor, effective immediately.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, highlighting Sotinrin’s extensive experience in both the private and public sectors.

Before his appointment, Sotinrin was the Group Chief Executive Officer of SAO Group, where he spearheaded several large-scale agricultural initiatives, including the development of a 20,000-hectare oil palm plantation and major poultry, aquaculture, maize, and cassava projects in Ondo State.

He also led SAO Capital, successfully raising over $750 million in infrastructure and development finance, including a landmark $200 million Akure Water Supply Project.

In the public sector, Sotinrin served as Special Adviser on Environment and Urban Development to the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between 2011 and 2015.

His extensive consultancy work includes engagements with the World Bank, AfDB, DFID, and USAID, advising on major federal and state-level projects.

His international experience spans roles at the Royal Bank of Scotland International, Deutsche Bank, and the UK Environment Agency. Academically, he holds an Executive MBA from Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, a Master’s in Engineering Business Management from Warwick University, and an Advanced Diploma in Environmental Conservation.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in Sotinrin’s capacity to reposition the Bank of Agriculture, stating, “Mr. Sotinrin’s proven ability to mobilize capital, innovate in agribusiness, and collaborate across sectors will be instrumental in repositioning the Bank of Agriculture as a catalyst for food security, sovereignty, and rural prosperity.”
