Tinubu Commissions Two New Attack Helicopters for NAF

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned two new attack helicopters to reinforce Nigeria’s ongoing efforts in tackling insecurity across the country.

The commissioning, which coincided with the Nigerian Air Force’s 61st anniversary, was held in Abuja and attended on the President’s behalf by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The newly inducted helicopters, designated NAF544 and NAF545, were described as critical additions to the Air Force fleet, aimed at enhancing the military’s capacity to respond swiftly and decisively to security threats.

Their arrival signals a renewed push by the federal government to support frontline troops with advanced equipment.

During the event, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, disclosed that the Nigerian Air Force is set to receive 49 more aircraft by 2027.

He said nine of those have already arrived since 2024, which include four T-129 attack helicopters, three King Air 360 surveillance aircraft, and the two Agusta 109 Trekker helicopters commissioned at the ceremony.

“These procurements reflect Mr President’s unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture,” Air Marshal Abubakar said, emphasizing that the Air Force remains resolute in deploying the new assets efficiently to aid national defence and counter-insurgency operations.
