Tender Your Statement To The Police Or We Protest On The Streets of Kano – CSO Tells Sanusi

The Northern Women Lawyers Congress has vowed to protest on the street of Kano if Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II failed to tender his statement to the Nigerian Police as instructed by the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun in a statement on Sunday.

The Chairperson of the Congress Barrister Nafisa Abba further called on the Emir to respect the rule of law tendering the statement to support the police investigation into the incident that led to the loss of lives during the sallah durbar which was earlier banned by the security agency.

“As a concerned Congress of women lawyers in the North, we have engage in so many development works including pro bono cases of rape victims and the recent is calling on the government of Edo State towards ensuring justice for the victims of the Uromo killings.

We have always raised our voice in the face of injustice and that’s why we are doing same as a result of the lost of lives during a sallah durbar by Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi despite the fact that it was banned by the police.

We are calling on the Emir to respect the law and respect the police as an institution by cooperating to tender that statement as instructed by the IGP.

I’m emphasising that we are not faceless, we are a registered organisation recognised by the law, as the Chairperson, I’m a member of the Kano Bar, go and check the record but I challenge all those responding on Alhaji Sanusi’s behalf to come out not as pseudonym like we are doing.

We will ensure that he tenders that statement or we mobilise our members to protest on the street of Kano.

Just because you’re an Emir, that doesn’t mean you are above the law. You’re not a governor or president. Talk less of talking about immunity. ” She added
