Sokoto moves to revive ailing industries

The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has intensified efforts to revive moribund industries nationwide.

Speaking when he received members of the Sokoto State Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture on a Salah homage on Wednesday, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to industrial revitalisation to tackle unemployment and boost economic growth.

Aliyu lamented the collapse of several industries that once thrived in the state, including ceramics, tannery, furniture, and fertilizer blending plants, which played a significant role in job creation and revenue generation.

“To ensure economic revival, our administration is implementing policies that ease doing business and create a conducive environment for investors,” Aliyu stated.

He emphasised that the government is open to partnerships with interested investors to breathe new life into the abandoned industries.

The governor also highlighted his administration’s proactive steps in providing key infrastructure for industrialisation, particularly through quality road construction and the completion of the Sokoto Independent Power Plant project.

Once completed, the IPP is expected to enhance electricity supply, thus boosting industrial and business activities in the state.

Aliyu urged SOCCIMA to actively promote Sokoto’s vast potentials in agriculture, mining, trade, and commerce to attract local and foreign investors.

He assured the chamber of his administration’s unwavering support in transforming Sokoto into a thriving business hub.

In his remarks, SOCCIMA president Muazu Maaji lauded the governor’s developmental strides, particularly the ongoing urban renewal program that has significantly improved the state’s infrastructure and investment appeal.

He expressed confidence that these initiatives would make Sokoto a prime destination for business and industrial growth.

With the state government’s renewed focus on economic revitalisation, Sokoto is poised to regain its industrial prominence and create new opportunities for businesses and residents alike.
