Reps Tour 1MW Solar Mini-Grid in Kano, Laud Project as Game-Changer in Energy Sector

As part of its oversight function, the House of Representatives Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, led by its Chairman, Rt. Hon. Engr. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, visited Bagaja Renewables’ 1MWp interconnected solar mini-grid in Zawaciki, Kano.
The visit was to assess private sector involvement in power infrastructure development following Nigeria’s power sector reform. The Committee toured the facility.
Chairman Chidari described the project as a “strategic and innovative approach to power generation and supply.”
“This project clearly illustrates the potential of public-private partnerships in addressing Nigeria’s longstanding electricity challenges,” he said.
He also called for more stakeholder support for renewable energy, citing its role in decentralizing energy supply and reducing reliance on the national grid.
Mr. Sadiq Zakari, Managing Director of Bagaja Renewables, guided the Committee through the facility.
“At Bagaja, our mission is to close the energy access gap through reliable and sustainable infrastructure,” Mr. Zakari stated. “The Zawaciki mini-grid is a demonstration of our vision for transforming Nigeria’s energy landscape.”
He also mentioned other projects, including one at Kura-Karfi in Kano and another in Kafin Hausa, Jigawa, which is currently under development.
