Police Dismantle Two Robbery Gangs in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects, dismantled two armed robbery groups, and recovered four stolen vehicles in separate operations across Kano and neighbouring states.
A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the operations were carried out by Tactical Teams under the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) based on orders from Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
On May 10, 2025, one Saidu Abubakar of Dan-Saidu Quarters, Naibawa, Kano, was arrested in Plateau State while attempting to sell a Toyota Corolla (2016 model) that had been reported stolen from Nura Abdullahi in Kano.
“The suspect, who was arrested in Plateau State in possession of a stolen Toyota Corolla 2016 model… confessed that he belongs to a syndicate specialized in vehicle snatching,” the statement read.
In a separate case, three suspects — Abdulaziz Usman (27) of Goron Dutse, Umar Abubakar (22) of Kazaure, Jigawa State, and Sunusi Abdullahi (28) of Karaye LGA, Kano — were arrested in connection with a robbery that occurred on May 1, 2025, at Ladanai Quarters, Hotoro.
The suspects reportedly broke into a home using cutlasses and knives and took a black Toyota Yaris, three laptops, an iPhone 11, ₦102,000 in cash, and other items.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Umar Aliyu from Kaduna State, identified as a buyer of stolen goods. Police recovered the Toyota Yaris and an unregistered Peugeot 406 that had been snatched earlier at Bechi Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
On May 16, 2025, police arrested Ibrahim Isa of Dorawa Zawan LGA, Plateau State, while trying to sell a stolen Howo concrete mixer truck in Kano. The truck had been reported stolen the same day from Kazaure LGA in Jigawa State.
“The vehicle was recovered… Suspects are currently helping investigation and will be charged appropriately in the end,” SP Kiyawa confirmed.
Reacting to the developments, Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, lauded the officers involved in the operations for their “professionalism and dedication to duty.”
“The Command will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of lives and property,” CP Bakori said, urging the public to report suspicious activity.
