Police Bust Arms Syndicate in Kano, Arrest Three Suspects, Recover 15 Rifles

Police in Kano have broken up an arms syndicate and arrested three men believed to be involved in illegal gun running.

The suspects — Abdul Sadiq, 43; Ahmad Muazu, 22; and Aliyu Sharif, 40 — were picked up on April 10 in the Dorayi Babba area during a raid based on intelligence gathered by the Kano State Police Command.

The operation led to the recovery of 15 locally-made rifles and 102 live cartridges. Police also found six used cartridges, which are suspected to have been fired in earlier crimes.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the arrests followed a credible tip-off. “The suspects were caught in possession of a substantial cache of illegal firearms,” he said. “Investigators are currently working to locate the source of manufacture and apprehend other individuals connected to the arms ring.”

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the officers involved in the operation. He said the police would continue to go after those fueling the spread of illegal weapons across the country.
