PDP Elects 40 New Officials in Jigawa Congress

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has ushered in a new leadership, with Dr. Babandi Ibrahim emerging as the newly elected chairman of the party.

The election, which took place during the state congress held on Saturday in Dutse, also saw 39 other officials being voted into various key positions.

Dr. Ibrahim, who previously served as the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, secured the chairmanship with a total of 874 votes.

Announcing the results, Chairman of the congress committee, Isa Ahmed, said 875 of the 888 accredited delegates participated in the exercise.

Among the new executive members are Umar Danjani, elected as vice chairman; Mohammed Bahutu, who retained his seat as secretary; and Isyaku Maruta, now serving as the legal adviser.

Others include Umar Kiyari as publicity secretary, Kabiru Nura as organising secretary, Hajiya Murja Garki as women leader, and Ali Badala as auditor.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Ibrahim expressed gratitude to party leaders, members, and delegates for their support. He called for unity among members and promised to operate an inclusive leadership style aimed at rebuilding and repositioning the party for victory in the 2027 general elections.

He also revealed plans to set up a reconciliation committee to reach out to aggrieved members and others interested in joining the PDP.

Former Governor Sule Lamido, who also addressed the gathering, congratulated the new officials and urged them to lead with vision and dedication.

He reminded them of the tough realities Nigerians are facing and encouraged them to work towards offering a better alternative.
