One dies in Lagos crash

A tragic road accident on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway at Cele Bus Stop has claimed the life of one person and left six others injured.

The fatal crash, which occurred around 11:55 AM on Saturday, involved seven vehicles and a total of 16 people (12 men and four women).

The vehicles involved in the crash were: MACK Truck (Blue) – Reg: KSF 593 YA; Volkswagen Bus (Yellow) – Reg: LSR 02 YJ; Suzuki Bus (Yellow) – Reg: AFK 739 XA; Volkswagen Bus (Yellow) – Reg: JJJ 32 XV; Volkswagen Bus (Yellow) – Reg: FST 734 XZ; Mercedes Benz Car (Red) – Reg: FFF 779 TK and Toyota Highlander Jeep (Gold) – Reg: RBC 667 ML.

According to a statement by the Lagos Sector Public Education Officer for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Elizabeth Jayeola, the accident was caused by brake failure of the MACK truck.

The accident left one male passenger dead and six others injured. Of the six injured, four were male and two were female.

Jayeola stated that the victims who sustained injuries were immediately attended to by the Lagos State Emergency Response Team and rushed to the hospital while the body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary.

“The FRSC, along with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Nigeria Police Force, were at the scene managing the traffic congestion and ensuring the crash site was cleared to restore the flow of traffic,” she added.

Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC, Kehinde Hamzat, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and stressed the importance of regular vehicle maintenance among commercial and articulated vehicle operators.

The FRSC also called on drivers to remain vigilant and cautious, highlighting that the responsibility for road safety is not only with the authorities but with every road user.
