Nollywood Pays Tribute To Jnr Pope And Other Crew Members One Year After Fatal Boat Accident

One year after the tragic death of Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Jnr Pope, and four other crew members on a movie set, the film industry has come together to remember them.

On April 10, 2025, the film community was struck with grief as Jnr Pope and his colleagues lost their lives in a boat accident while en route to the set. The boat capsized, claiming the lives of the five individuals.

To honor their memory, a memorial service was held at St. Johnbosco Catholic Church in Asaba. Filmmaker Stanley Ontop took to Instagram to share updates with his followers, posting a series of images from the event.

The attendees, dressed in black to signify their mourning, gathered for a heartfelt church service. The video shared by Ontop showed the mourners in solemn prayer, paying their respects to the departed. The filmmaker’s post included a poignant caption reflecting on the significance of the day.
