“No More Daba in Kano,” CP Bakori Declares

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has announced efforts to address street thuggery and drug abuse in the state, stating “no more Daba in Kano” during a stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Kano State Taskforce Committee on Security Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation.
The meeting at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Kofar Mata, included traditional rulers, community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and civil society groups who discussed ways to improve security and youth rehabilitation.
In his remarks, CP Bakori acknowledged the committee’s role in bringing security agencies together.
“Worthy of mentioning is the improved synergy amongst security agencies in the State as a result of the formation of the committee,” he said.
He said that since taking office, the command has focused on tackling thuggery (Daba) and drug abuse, calling them serious challenges to public safety and youth development.
“We identified thuggery, particularly the notorious Fadan Daba, and drug abuse as our top priorities. These challenges threaten the safety and security of our communities and jeopardize the futures of our youth,” the CP emphasized.
Bakori noted that some progress has been made, including the arrest of 150 suspects and the seizure of weapons, drugs, and stolen items.
He also stated that enforcement alone won’t solve the problem, and called for more programs aimed at engaging youth.
“We must work together to provide alternatives for our youth. This means investing in education, vocational training, and recreational programs that engage our young people and offer them pathways to success,” Bakori urged.
He said traditional institutions, especially Ward Heads (Masu Unguwanni), should take part in community policing by monitoring their areas and working with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs).
“You have to critically study your area, identify security threats, and liaise with DPOs in your areas to address any likely emerging challenges,” he said.
“To all DPOs, ensure you work with all relevant stakeholders to address emerging crimes. When we work together with people’s support and cooperation, there will be no more Daba in Kano.”
