A Nigerian woman has stirred reactions online after criticizing outspoken social commentator, VeryDarkMan, amid his ongoing detention by security operatives in Abuja.

Amid the backlash, an Instagram user with the handle dagoldenfish questioned the financial situation of VeryDarkMan’s mother, following his public complaints against GTBank over unauthorized deductions from her account.

In other news, Supporters of internet sensation VeryDarkMan have begun a social media campaign urging Nigerians to boycott Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) following reports of his controversial arrest.

According to multiple online sources, the outspoken influencer was apprehended after accompanying his mother to a GTBank branch to lodge a complaint about unauthorized withdrawals from her account. Reports allege that the arrest was carried out at the request of the bank, sparking outrage among his fanbase.

A user on X (formerly Twitter), identified as @WizardBJ4, described the situation as unacceptable and encouraged the public to act swiftly.
“It’s time to cancel @gtbank. They’ve crossed the line by going after @thatverydarkman. This is a major red flag. I urge everyone to close their accounts — the bank clearly can’t protect its customers. #FreeVDM,” the post read.

In another trending post, a user added,
“Please take your money out of @gtbank until VDM is released or his location is disclosed. This needs to trigger real protest energy! How can someone as prominent as VeryDarkMan just disappear from a bank branch without accountability?”

Since the campaign kicked off, more users have echoed the call to withdraw funds from the bank, claiming GTBank has lost public trust. The movement has quickly gained traction, with hashtags like #FreeVDM and #BoycottGTBank trending across various platforms.

As of the time of reporting, neither GTBank nor the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made an official statement regarding the incident.
