Nigeria Police Summon Officers Over Viral Extortion Video Demanding ₦5,000 or Five Litres of Fuel

The Nigeria Police Force has taken swift action after a video showing officers demanding bribes from motorists went viral.
In the footage, which spread widely on Monday, a police officer was seen asking motorists for either ₦5,000 or five litres of fuel if they couldn’t show proof of registration with the Electronic Central Motor Registry.
Reacting to the incident, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, strongly condemned the officers’ behavior in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Adejobi said, “This action is utterly condemned. The officers involved have been identified and summoned to the Force Headquarters for necessary disciplinary measures. We will not tolerate any form of indiscipline or unprofessional conduct.”
He assured the public that updates on the investigation and any resulting actions would be provided as soon as possible.
