Nigeria Police Secure Extradition of Fraud Suspect from Dubai

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully secured the extradition of a fraud suspect, Abubakar Aboki Muhammed, from the United Arab Emirates to Nigeria over his alleged involvement in a multi-million-dollar scam.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Saturday, confirmed that Muhammed was extradited to Nigeria on Friday, May 23, 2025, following his arrest in Dubai on April 15, 2025.
According to Mr. Adejobi, “The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL NCB Abuja, has successfully extradited a Nigerian fugitive, Abubakar Aboki Muhammed, from the United Arab Emirates on Friday, 23rd May 2025. Muhammed, a male suspect, was subject to an INTERPOL Red Notice issued by NCB Abuja following an extensive investigation into a case of Obtaining Money by false pretence, forgery, and money laundering.’’
The police explained that the suspect had been on their radar since 2023 after an Abuja-based businessman lodged a complaint, accusing Muhammed of defrauding him while posing as a shipping agent.
“Investigations revealed that Muhammed misrepresented himself to the complainant, securing a contract to facilitate payments and freight of 10 high-end vehicles, valued at $307,500.00, from the UAE to Nigeria via designated registered shipping companies,” Adejobi stated.
After gaining the trust of his victim, the suspect allegedly received the full payment through a third-party account at FCMB belonging to one Anas Usaini, a Kano resident. The police said the funds were then laundered through channels in Dubai.
“Upon receipt of the payment, Muhammed provided the complainant with a forged bill of lading for the vehicles and subsequently became uncontactable,” Adejobi added.
The police said Mr. Muhammed is expected to face prosecution at the Federal High Court, describing the extradition as a major milestone in the fight against transnational financial crime.
