NAFDAC busts fake alcohol factory in Lagos, seizes products ‘worth N114m’

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a clandestine operation producing and distributing adulterated and expired alcoholic beverages in Lagos State.

In a statement released on Thursday, the agency revealed that Madu Abuchi Simon was arrested while allegedly counterfeiting several popular alcoholic brands, including “Hennessy, William Lawson, Baileys, Martell, St. Remy, and Jameson.”

A search of the premises uncovered expired Amarula cream liquor, branded empty bottles and cartons, product labels, stoves, buckets, cotton wool, and a purple-coloured chemical believed to be used for washing and reusing bottles.

Simon reportedly tried to flee the scene during the raid but was apprehended by NAFDAC operatives.

The agency disclosed that more than 100 cartons of assorted adulterated alcoholic beverages were seized, with an estimated street value of over ₦114 million.

The illicit facility has been sealed off as investigations continue.

NAFDAC has advised consumers to purchase alcoholic beverages only from trusted and reputable outlets, urging the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest NAFDAC office.
