Mark Angel Questions EFCC’s Integrity Over VeryDarkman’s Arrest, Demands Evidence

  • Mark Angel has sparked discussions online about the EFCC’s arrest of VeryDarkMan.
  • In an Instagram video, Angel questioned the EFCC’s claim that VDM had been invited for questioning multiple times before his arrest.
  • He challenged the EFCC to provide evidence supporting their statement regarding VDM’s prior invitations.

Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator, Mark Angel, has ignited conversations online after openly questioning the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding their arrest of controversial internet personality, VeryDarkMan (VDM).

In a video posted to his Instagram account, Mark Angel addressed the EFCC’s official statement claiming that VDM had been invited multiple times before his arrest. The comedian challenged the legitimacy of this claim and urged the agency to back it up with evidence.

“EFCC just released a press statement saying they invited VeryDarkMan and he refused to go, that was the reason they arrested him. We want to believe that. In fact, I personally want to believe it. Show us the evidence. If he has done something, and you want to do your work, fine. But don’t fabricate stories,” Mark said.

His demand reflects growing public concern about the lack of transparency and accountability within law enforcement institutions in Nigeria. With public trust in such agencies declining, mere press releases no longer satisfy calls for accountability—tangible proof is now expected.

Online reactions have mirrored Mark Angel’s concerns. One user commented, “You can’t throw someone behind bars and then start writing fiction to justify it. Proof or nothing.” Another added, “This is why trust is dead in Nigeria.”

Although some believe Mark Angel is using the controversy to gain attention, many argue that it’s essential for public figures to use their platforms to demand justice and speak out against possible abuse of power. Regardless of opinions about VDM’s style, calls for due process remain central to the debate.
