Leadership Award: Wike’s Record Unmatched — Ex-Reps Member Yusuf Teejay

Former House of Representatives member, Hon. TeeJay Yusuf, has congratulated Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on receiving the Leadership Quinquennial Award, calling him “a trail blazer in all spheres of life.”
Yusuf, who represented Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency from 2011 to 2023, made the remarks in a statement he personally signed, noting that the award didn’t come as a surprise given Wike’s track record.
According to him, “As far back as 2014, if my memory is right, Wike as Minister of State, Education, risked his life going into the enclaves of terrorists to build schools for Almajiris.”
He added, “He did not stop there. As Governor of Rivers State, he was tagged Mr. Projects as he made Rivers the most developed nationwide in terms of infrastructure, making the then APC government of Muhammadu Buhari to bestow him the award of most outstanding governor in infrastructural development.”
Yusuf also commented on Wike’s current role as FCT Minister: “Again, Wike as FCT minister in less than two years has out-performed virtually all FCT ministers since the Territory was created on February 3, 1976. He is fast turning the abandoned rural areas into urbanized centres, building permanent structures like never before and putting smiles on faces of FCT residents.”
The Leadership Quinquennial Award is held every five years to honor individuals noted for their work in governance and infrastructure. The last award was given in 2020, with Wike emerging as the 2025 recipient.
Yusuf concluded, “I doff my heart for a true democrat and Mr. Projects. Also, I commend the management of Leadership Newspapers for being objective, and upright by recognizing a Nigerian that’s an embodiment of excellence.”
