Labour Party Affirms Julius Abure as National Chairman, Denies Supreme Court Removal

The Labour Party has debunked reports suggesting that the Supreme Court has removed Julius Abure as the party’s National Chairman.

In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Arabambi Abayomi, dismissed the reports as false and misleading.

“What transpired in court today was clear,” Abayomi said. “The Supreme Court struck out suits filed by Nenadi and Abure, emphasising that only political parties have the authority to determine their leadership. The court further stated that the judiciary should not interfere in the internal affairs of political parties.”

The party explained that the Supreme Court ruling also nullified previous decisions by the trial court and the Court of Appeal, stressing that the lower court exceeded its jurisdiction by making pronouncements on the internal leadership of the party.

“The court’s message was unambiguous – political parties must follow their constitutions, and the Labour Party adhered to its constitution in organising the convention that led to the election of Bar Julius Abure as National Chairman and Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim as National Secretary,” Abayomi added.

Reiterating the legitimacy of the current leadership, Abayomi said: “The only legitimate national leadership of the Labour Party remains as follows: Bar Julius Abure as National Chairman and Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim as National Secretary.”

The party called on its members and the general public to disregard the misinformation circulating about Abure’s removal, urging them to stay focused on the party’s goals and legitimate leadership.
