Kwara Denies Avian Influenza Cases

The Kwara State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has confirmed there are no reported cases of Avian Influenza in the state, but emphasized the need for heightened awareness and preventive action.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Ministry’s Press Secretary, Omotola Ashaolu, the government warned against complacency in light of a recent outbreak of the highly pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Kano State.

“While there are no confirmed cases in Kwara State, proactive measures are necessary to prevent its occurrence and safeguard our poultry industry and public health,” the statement read.

“HPAI, a highly contagious disease, causes severe poultry mortality and poses a potential risk to human health.”

To prevent the disease, the government has urged residents, particularly poultry farmers, bird handlers, and agricultural stakeholders, to adopt preventive measures, including restricting access to poultry farms and preventing wild birds from interacting with domestic poultry.

The Ministry also advised immediate reporting of any suspected cases and recommended the use of protective equipment.

Ashaolu added, “The ministry urges strict compliance with these guidelines to protect Kwara State from this threat. By working together, we can prevent an outbreak and ensure a healthy and secure future for our communities.”
