Kwankwaso Can Join APC via Ganduje or Atiku Coalition, Says Yakasai

Former Kano State gubernatorial candidate and media aide to ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, has commented on recent political developments involving Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), stating that only Kwankwaso determines his political path.

Tanko Yakasai made the comments on his Facebook page hours after Senator Kwankwaso denied the rumour about his political stance.

“Whether you \[Kwankwaso] join the APC under Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, or you join the coalition under Atiku Abubakar, or you stay with vegetables in the NNPP — the decision lies with the leader.”

His comment followed Kwankwaso’s denial of reports claiming he rejected an invitation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A viral story had circulated on social media claiming that the former Kano governor rebuffed Tinubu’s approach, allegedly saying he would “rather quit politics entirely than go back to the APC.”

However, Kwankwaso, in a swift rebuttal posted on his verified Facebook page, dismissed the claims as false and malicious.

“My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments in Nigeria. I wish to categorically state that such statements are false, unfounded, and the products of political mischief,” he wrote.

The NNPP leader further clarified that he had deliberately chosen to stay silent on current political realignments and had no intention of changing that stance.

“I have refrained from commenting on contemporary political events, and I will continue to do so for the time being,” he added.

He urged the public and the media to treat only information from his verified social media accounts and official channels as authentic.

“In this regard, I urge the public to only engage with statements that come from my public handles and other official sources,” Kwankwaso concluded.
