Killings Must End Now – Tinubu Tells Security Agencies

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered a shake-up in Nigeria’s approach to national security following renewed violence and killings in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara States.
The directive came during a long meeting with security chiefs on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
People familiar with the meeting described it as tense, with the president visibly upset about the rising death toll. “Enough is enough,” Tinubu said, according to sources present.
A statement by the president’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu called for a new strategy and demanded urgent changes.
“The killing of innocent people must stop,” the president was quoted as saying, condemning what he called the senseless violence targeting civilians.
National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, told reporters after the meeting that Tinubu had been closely monitoring the situation, even while he was on official trips abroad.
“Even when he was out there, he was constantly in touch, giving directives and following developments,” Ribadu said.
According to Ribadu, the president is pushing for more grassroots involvement in the fight against insecurity.
“The issue of insecurity often is not just at the higher levels. It involves the subunits. We need to work with the communities, with the local governments, and with the governors,” he said.
He added that security officials had earlier visited the affected states on the president’s orders and came back with reports that shaped the discussion.
“We went to those particular three states. We gave him feedback because he had directed us earlier to go and meet with the political authorities there,” Ribadu explained.
He said Tinubu was fully engaged during the meeting and issued new orders to security agencies.
“It was a very detailed briefing, and it was exhaustive. We listened and we took instructions from him. He gave us new directives. The fact is that Mr. President is insisting that we work harder to restore security in the country,” he said.
