Kano Thugs, Drug Dealers Busted in Coordinated Raids

Between May 10 and 14, the Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Security Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation carried out a series of coordinated raids across several neighborhoods in the state, targeting criminal hideouts and areas identified for illicit activity.
Led by Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, the operation covered communities including Dorayi, Ja’en, Sharada, Unguwar Dabai, Dukawa, Kabuga, and Kofar Mata.
A statement signed by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the operation led to the arrest of 31 individuals—25 suspected thugs and six suspected drug dealers.
Items recovered during the raids included four Dane guns, nine knives and cutlasses, three clubs (known locally as gora), more than three parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, and 173 tablets believed to be exol, among other substances.
SP Kiyawa identified some of those arrested in Dorayi Quarters as Dan Abba, Bola, Baka Kashi, Ramos, Abba Maciji, and Abdul Baki.
“All twenty-five suspected thugs have been charged to Magistrate Court Number 16, Zangeru Road Kano and remanded, while the six suspected drug dealers, including the notorious Rabi’u Hamza, have been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution,” Kiyawa said.
He added that the operation was significant in confronting long-standing security challenges in Dorayi. “No doubt, this successful operation that led to the identification and arrest of the insecurity arrowheads in Dorayi Quarters will bring a lasting solution to the over two decades of thuggery-related conflicts in their area,” the statement read.
Kiyawa said the task force, which includes members of various security agencies and state officials, would continue its operations.
“The Kano State Joint Task Force Committee remains steadfast and resolute in its mission to create a safer, drug-free, and peaceful environment for the benefit of all the inhabitants in the State,” he said.
