Kano, Katsina, Jigawa to Benefit from New Power Agency

Residents of Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states are set to benefit from improved electricity supply following the passage of the Kano State Electricity Agency Bill 2025 by the Kano State House of Assembly.
The bill, passed during Monday’s plenary chaired by Speaker Rt. Hon. Ismail Falgore, aims to open up alternative energy options—including solar, wind, and hydro power—to meet the growing electricity needs of citizens across the three states.
According to the House Majority Leader, Hon. Lawan Husseini, the new agency will help reduce energy costs, ease the burden on households and businesses, and support critical infrastructure like hospitals and water treatment plants.
“This initiative will not only increase power supply, it will also empower small and large-scale industries to operate more efficiently,” Husseini told reporters after the session.
The structure of the proposed electricity agency will include a chairman, managing director, and deputy managing director, with each of the three benefiting states having three representatives on the board.
The chairmanship will rotate among the states every four years. The managing director is expected to have at least ten years of experience in energy generation, control, and distribution.
