Kano Govt Sets Up Committee for Gaya Polytechnic

The Kano State Government has inaugurated a 15-member technical committee to oversee the establishment of a polytechnic in Gaya town.

The committee was inaugurated on Monday by the Deputy Governor of the state, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who also serves as the Commissioner for Higher Education.

During the inauguration, Comrade Gwarzo called on the members to utilize their experience and work within the terms of reference.

“This assignment is critical to our administration’s commitment to improving access to technical and vocational education,” he said. “You are expected to work with diligence and transparency and ensure that Gaya Polytechnic becomes a model of excellence.”

According to a statement signed by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, the committee is chaired by Dr. Hadi Bala Yahaya, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher Education, with Shehu Sani Dauda, Director of Administration and General Services in the ministry, serving as secretary.

Other members include Dr. Muhammad Umar Kibiya, Deputy Rector, Kano State Polytechnic; Prof. Auwalu Halliru Arzai, Special Adviser on Higher Education; Alhaji Ibrahim Jibrin Fagge, former Provost, Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education; Engr. Yahaya Abubakar Baba, Director of Physical Planning, Ministry of Higher Education; Prof. Abba Garba Gaya of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil; and Dr. Garba Adamu of Kano State Polytechnic.

The list also includes Arch. Aminu Muhammad Abdullahi, representing the Ministry of Works; representatives from the Ministries of Justice and Finance; Dr. Suraj Isa Gaya of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil; Usaini Ali Ajingi, former Director of ICT, Ministry of Higher Education; Shehu Sani Shehu, Director of Administration and General Services, Ministry for Higher Education; and Dr. Lukman T. Siraj, Director of Support Services, Ministry of Education.

The committee has been tasked with assessing existing infrastructure at the proposed site, preparing a bill of quantities for additional facilities, drafting a bill for the establishment of the polytechnic, developing an academic brief, and preparing a physical master plan.

They are also expected to recommend resources needed for the institution’s take-off, co-opt additional members if necessary, and address other related matters. The committee has a two-week deadline to submit its report.
