Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been honored with the 2025 African Good Governance Award, which celebrates African leaders committed to transparent and accountable leadership.

The award was presented at a ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, organized by African Heritage Magazine during a gathering of African leaders and policy influencers.

Governor Yusuf was recognized alongside prominent figures such as Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, and Uganda’s Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.

According to a statement from the Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the award was handed to Governor Yusuf on behalf of Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, by Ghana’s Minister of Culture and Tourism.

“This award is not just for me—it is for the people of Kano who entrusted me with leadership,” Governor Yusuf said. “It’s a call to do more, to serve better, and to uphold the values of justice, equity, and good governance.”

Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to the organizers and reiterated his administration’s focus on transparency, accountability, and inclusion.

He dedicated the award to the people of Kano, referencing strides made in education, healthcare, youth and women empowerment, infrastructure, and civil service reforms.
