JUST IN: U.S. to close Abuja Embassy, Lagos Consulate May 26

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day, a U.S. federal holiday held annually on the last Monday of May.
The U.S. Mission in Nigeria announced the closure via its official X account (formerly Twitter), noting that Memorial Day is dedicated to honouring American military personnel who lost their lives in service to the nation.
Described as a solemn occasion in the United States, Memorial Day is marked by nationwide ceremonies, flag tributes, and moments of remembrance for fallen service members.
All routine consular services at both the embassy and consulate will be suspended for the day. Normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, May 27.
The U.S. Mission advised anyone with urgent consular needs to visit its official website for emergency contact information.
