Jigawa NAN Bureau Chief Emerges Secretary, NUJ Jigawa Council

Mrs. Aisha Ahmed, the Bureau Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse, has been elected Secretary of the Jigawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in an election held on Monday in Dutse.

Ahmed is a registered member of the NUJ. She previously served as Vice Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Kano and also held the position of Secretary at the Jigawa State Correspondents’ Chapel.

Others elected include Sama’ila Ibrahim as Chairman, Nura Bello as Vice Chairman, and Muhammed Shuwajo of Freedom Radio as Assistant Secretary.

Najib Umar was elected Financial Secretary, while Auwal Muhammed Kazaure became the Treasurer.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Sama’ila Ibrahim, said he would run an open administration and involve all members of the union.

He said he would focus on reviving the state council and prioritize members’ welfare, stressing the importance of ethical conduct and professionalism.

The Vice President, Zone A of the NUJ, Muhammad Tukur, while commenting after the election, urged the new leaders to ensure transparency and accountability.

Mr. Tukur advised the new council executives to carry all members along and uphold ethical journalism in Jigawa State.
