JAMB: 96% of Direct Entry Results Submitted to BUK Are Fake

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that 96% of the A-level results submitted to Bayero University, Kano (BUK) for Direct Entry admission in 2024 were forged.
According to JAMB’s bulletin, only six out of 148 A-level results presented to BUK were genuine; the remaining 142 were fake. The discovery came from routine screening and verification.
JAMB advised tertiary institutions to verify submitted documents independently.
In response to concerns raised by BUK and other institutions, JAMB introduced the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPEDS) two years ago to identify fake A-level certificates, including those from foreign institutions.
Thirteen more fake A-level certificates were recently flagged through NIPEDS. Some of these had already been used to obtain admission offers.
Those involved have been handed over to law enforcement.
JAMB said institutions that admit candidates with forged credentials may be held responsible. It also stated that institutions should not depend solely on NIPEDS for verification.
In one case, several applicants submitted fake IJMBE results from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in an attempt to gain admission into the university.
JAMB said it would continue efforts to remove fraud from the admission process.
