“It Is Unofficial”- VeryDarkman’s Lawyer Refutes EFCC’s Bail Announcement

  • Deji Adeyanju is the attorney for VeryDarkMan.
  • Adeyanju has responded to a statement from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission regarding Otse’s release.
  • Otse was released on “administrative bail” according to the EFCC’s announcement.

Deji Adeyanju, the attorney representing social media figure Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan or VDM, has spoken out following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) statement regarding his client’s release on “administrative bail.”

Earlier, GistLover reported that on Tuesday, April 6, the EFCC explained the circumstances surrounding VeryDarkMan’s detention. The commission clarified that VDM had been legally detained as part of an ongoing investigation but would be released once his bail conditions were fulfilled.

However, the EFCC emphasized that the specific charges against the online commentator would only be made public once the investigation had concluded. The commission also urged the public to respect its process and avoid any attempts to disrupt its work.

In response to the EFCC’s announcement, VeryDarkMan’s legal representative, Deji Adeyanju, disputed the claim, stating that he had yet to receive any official bail documents from the EFCC. He referred to the release as a “social media bail,” adding that his legal team had repeatedly requested formal confirmation of the bail since they were first informed of the decision.

“The Bail granted VDM is social media bail as we are yet to receive any bail document from The EFCC. We have made several repeated demands in this regard since yesterday that we were informed about the decision to grant bail,” Adeyanju wrote via his X handle.

Following VDM’s detention, protests took place in Abuja, with supporters demanding his immediate release.
