INEC Rejects Recall Petition Against Senator Natasha

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially rejected a petition seeking the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District.

According to the electoral body, the petition did not meet the constitutional requirements for the recall process.

In a statement released today Thursday, INEC clarified that the petition fell short of the provisions outlined in Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). The section governs the conditions under which elected representatives may be recalled from office by their constituents.

“The petition for the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended),” the statement read.

INEC did not provide further details in the statement, but the decision effectively puts an end to the petition for the time being.
