Ibas appoints administrators for 23 Rivers LGAs [FULL LIST]
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has approved the appointment of new administrators for the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state and has reconstituted the suspended boards of various agencies, commissions, and parastatals.
These appointments, which took effect on April 7, 2025, were announced in a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika.
A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt had previously issued an injunction barring Ibas from making such appointments. The court’s order, delivered by Justice Adamu Turaki Mohammed in Suit Number: FHC/PH/CS/46/2025, was filed by PILEX Centre for Civic Education Initiative, led by Courage Msirimovu.
The injunction, granted on March 28, 2025, prohibited Ibas and his agents from appointing any sole administrators to oversee the LGAs.
Despite the court’s order, the statement from Worika confirmed the approval of the appointments by Ibas, which includes reconstituting the boards of suspended agencies and commissions. The appointments are effective as of April 7, 2025.
