House Condemns Edo Attack as Kabiru Rurum Demands Justice for Slain Northern Hunters

The House of Representatives has condemned the killing of hunters from Northern Nigeria who were ambushed along the Uromi–Irrua Road in Edo State while returning home.
Raising the issue during Tuesday’s plenary, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, member representing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency, described the attack as an unprovoked act that violated the victims’ rights.
“These hunters were attacked without provocation,” Rurum said. “It is a clear violation of their constitutional right to freedom of movement and personal security.”
The motion, seconded by Ali Sani Madakin Gini of Dala, was supported by members of the House.
A statement signed by Fatihu Yusuf Bichi, media aide to Rurum, said the House called on the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the killings.
“They must identify, apprehend, and prosecute all those responsible to ensure justice is served,” the statement said.
Lawmakers said violence of this nature threatens Nigeria’s unity and called on federal and state governments to adopt community-based security measures and public awareness campaigns to prevent similar incidents.
The House also noted responses from Edo and Kano State governments and urged that support be provided to the victims’ families.
Speaker Tajuddeen Abbas directed the House Committee on Police to monitor compliance with the resolutions and report back.
“This is not just about condolence; it is about action. We must not rest until justice is done,” Rurum added.
