Hardship Realities: Group Urges Tinubu to Craft Policies for Economic Relief

The Association of Arewa Yoruba Youths (AAYY) has passionately appealed to the federal government to shoulder the burden of JAMB registration fees for all eligible students nationwide.

This, they believe, would alleviate the financial struggles many parents face in securing their children’s future through education.

The group pointed out that around 1.8 million students registered for JAMB last year, projecting that the number could climb to an estimated 2 million this year.

In a statement by the Association’s National Coordinator, Ambassador Lawal Hussein Taiye, the group highlighted the financial implication of this proposal.

“If JAMB registration costs approximately N7,000 per student, the total expenditure for two million students would be about N14 billion,” Hussein noted.

Hussein, who also serves as the National Coordinator of the Tinubu Mukeso Group, emphasized the significance of this gesture in light of the country’s economic challenges.

“This will assist parents and less privileged students in registering for the examination, given the present hardship many households are experiencing in the country,” he remarked.

He criticized the federal government’s alleged N75,000 conditional cash transfer program, suggesting that such funds might fail to reach the intended beneficiaries and could instead be misappropriated by unscrupulous politicians.

Hussein advocated for a more transparent, digital system of financial aid distribution to ensure proper accountability.

According to him, “Paying JAMB examination fees for students this year will go a long way in enabling many families, who cannot afford the fees, to register their students for the examination.”

The association also urged the Bola Tinubu-led administration to prioritize impactful policies that directly address the plight of Nigerians grappling with harsh economic realities.
