Gunmen Attack Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Family Home

Gunmen have attacked the family home of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Obeiba-Ihima, located in the Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The attack happened in the early hours of Tuesday when at least three armed men—wielding guns and cutlasses—stormed the residence and vandalized the property, smashing windows and causing panic.
Yakubu Ovanja, the senator’s chief security officer, said the intruders arrived around 1 a.m. A distress call was quickly made, and security operatives from Okehi responded to the scene. No arrests have been made so far, but the incident has been reported to the police, and an investigation is underway.
Speaking with TheCable, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said she believed the attackers may have thought she was in town, which could have prompted the assault on her family home.
“Just two days ago, my younger brother was in Ihima with contractors to inspect the sites for upcoming projects I facilitated for my senatorial district,” she said. “The gunmen probably assumed I had returned home and decided to strike.”
She added that the attackers were repelled by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, with the help of concerned community members who came out in large numbers. Fortunately, no one was injured during the attack.
A formal report has been lodged at the area police command.
This incident comes shortly after Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate over a dispute involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio regarding seating arrangements.
The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, chaired by Neda Imaseun, recommended her suspension, citing alleged violations of Senate rules.
