Grammar War! Nigerian Man Challenges ‘Oyinbo Man’ to English Face-Off

A lively exchange on Twitter gained widespread attention after Nigerian user Ifedayo (@ifedayo_johnson) openly challenged British user @BasedNorthmathr to a contest of English proficiency.
The incident began when @BasedNorthmathr made a broad statement questioning the reliance of the UK care sector on Nigerians who supposedly have limited English skills.
In reply, Ifedayo proposed a fair competition in the form of an IELTS-style English examination that would assess reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities.
“If your overall score is higher than mine,” Ifedayo said, “I’ll pack my bags and leave this country within 24 hours. But if I score higher, you’ll never again question or disrespect the English skills of any Nigerian.”
The Brit accepted the challenge, agreeing to take the same online IELTS practice test.
“I’ll get back to you,” he added, signaling that the battle of brains might just go live soon.
