Governor Yusuf: ‘Water Scarcity in Rano Will Soon Be History’
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Ministry of Water Resources to ensure a sustainable and uninterrupted water supply to Rano Town, which has suffered from water shortages for decades.
The governor made this known while receiving the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umar, who paid him a Sallah homage at the Government House, Kano, on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
This was contained in a press release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
Governor Yusuf commended the Emir for his unwavering concern for the welfare of his people and assured him that the government is taking concrete steps to address the water crisis.
“We want to inform you that on the issue of water supply, we have made significant progress. I have directed the Commissioner of Water Resources to engage experts to tap water from Tiga Dam to supply Rano Town,” the governor stated.
He further revealed that arrangements have been made to construct boreholes in collaboration with the local government despite the challenging rocky topography of the area.
“We will use advanced surveying techniques to detect water aquifers beneath the rocky terrain and ensure a steady supply of water,” Governor Yusuf assured.
Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, environmental development, education, and women and youth empowerment.
Governor Yusuf also extended his condolences to the Emir of Rano over the gruesome murder of Kano indigenes in Uromi, Edo State. He commended the Emir for his role in calming tensions and reassuring the affected families that justice will be served.
“Had it not been for the wise intervention of the Emir, only God knows what could have happened,” the governor remarked.
Earlier, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umar, the Emir of Rano, thanked Governor Yusuf for the ongoing developmental projects in the emirate and urged him to continue addressing the water supply challenges.
“We appreciate your efforts in education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and the timely payment of retirees’ gratuities,” the Emir stated.
He also commended the governor for acting on complaints regarding the five-kilometer road project, which led to the replacement of the contractor with a more competent one.
“We are pleased to inform you that the project is now making significant progress,” the Emir added.
