Gov Yusuf Suspends Aide Over Comments on Kwankwaso

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has suspended Ibrahim Rabi’u, a Senior Special Reporter attached to the Ministry of Transportation, over comments he made concerning Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The state government says Rabi’u’s statement, which touched on rumours of Kwankwaso’s defection, was made without authorisation and does not reflect the position of the administration.
The suspension was announced on Saturday by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim. A query has also been issued to Rabi’u regarding the comments.
Reacting to the situation, the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said in a statement: “The government cautions all political appointees against unauthorised comments, especially outside their jurisdiction. Any political appointee must get clearance before making public comments on issues that have to do with the position of the government on matters of public importance or sensitive political decisions.”
He added that the government had nothing to do with the statement and that “the statement authored by the suspended aide came solely from the author for reasons best known to him.”
The government also reminded the public that only the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Wayya, is permitted to speak on behalf of the administration, while Sanusi Bature speaks for the Governor.
