Gov Yusuf Disburses Over N600 Million to Erosion Victims in Kano

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has disbursed over N600 million as compensation to residents of Bulbula and Gayawa in Nasarawa and Ungogo Local Government Areas.
The funds are intended for families and individuals affected by the Erosion Control Project in the area.
The disbursement took place at the Coronation Hall of the Government House in Kano on Thursday. It was coordinated by the Kano Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (Kano-ACReSAL), under the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, with support from the World Bank and the federal government.
Governor Yusuf said, “I am deeply honored to be here to personally present compensation cheques to the Project-Affected Persons (PAPs) under the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP). Every cheque presented today sends a message that the government of Abba Gida-Gida stands with its people, especially during times of hardship and displacement.”
He added, “The compensation being disbursed today is based on thorough enumeration, community engagement, and due diligence. Our approach ensures that every affected citizen is recognized, documented, and fairly treated in accordance with global best practices.”
He also commented on the impact of the erosion: “The Bulbula-Gayawa erosion menace has brought untold hardship to many. It has claimed farmlands, damaged homes, displaced families, and turned once-thriving neighborhoods into unsafe zones.”
He mentioned that the erosion control infrastructure includes reinforced concrete channels, bioremediation buffers, and solar-powered streetlights.
The Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change and Chairman of the ACReSAL Steering Committee, Dr. Dahiru M. Hashim, said, “The administration of Governor Yusuf is determined to address environmental disasters across Kano, and we appreciate the support from both the World Bank and the federal government.”
A beneficiary, Fatima Haruna, said, “We have been calling for help for years without any results, but today, we are witnessing a new chapter, thanks to this government.” Another beneficiary, Jibril Abdullahi Jibril, added, “This money will go a long way in helping us rebuild what we’ve lost and feel safe again.”
