  • A Florida teenager, Abbriella Elliott, was murdered by her ex-boyfriend.
  • The incident occurred two weeks after her 16th birthday.
  • Her body was found on March 27 in the Cypress Lakes Preserve Trailhead, Hernando County.

A Florida teenager was tragically murdered by her ex-boyfriend, just two weeks after celebrating her 16th birthday. Abbriella Elliott’s body was discovered on March 27 by a hiker in the Cypress Lakes Preserve Trailhead in Hernando County. The remains were located about 50 to 100 feet off the trail, according to reports from the Hernando Sun.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis of Hernando County revealed that a witness saw Elliott leaving her home around 1 a.m. on the day of her death, suggesting she went to meet someone, likely the individual responsible for her murder. “It became apparent early on that this was not a random act; it was an extremely violent crime,” said Nienhuis at a press conference. The sheriff also stated that the teenager’s death appeared to be the result of an attack involving a sharp weapon.

On March 28, 16-year-old Cameron Cubel was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to Elliott’s death. While authorities did not provide specific details about the relationship between the victim and the suspect, Elliott’s parents confirmed that Cubel was her ex-boyfriend, with the couple having broken up six months prior.

Elliott’s tragic death occurred just two weeks after her birthday. Cubel, who had a history of a previous battery charge, is believed to have had prior interactions with Elliott, though investigators have not confirmed the specifics of their relationship.

In an emotional tribute, Elliott’s mother, Danyel Caltagirone, described her daughter as a joyful and vibrant young woman, fond of singing and spreading happiness. In a GoFundMe set up to assist with funeral expenses, Caltagirone shared how Abby’s spirit was known for brightening every room she entered, making everyone around her feel loved.

A prayer vigil held on March 30 allowed family and friends to honor the teen’s life. Her stepfather, Leo Lind, expressed how proud he was of the turnout. “Abby would have been so happy to see all the people who came to celebrate her,” he said. “Her light, her smile, her fun-loving nature, it’s what made her special.”
