Foreign-Trained Kano Scholar Gets Global Recognition

A postgraduate student sponsored by the Kano State Government to study abroad, Yahaya Kabir Sani, has been recognized by Mewar University, India, for his outstanding academic performance.
Kabir Sani, who hails from Rano Local Government Area, received the award for Most Hardworking and Dedicated Student, presented by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Alok Misra.
He recently completed a Master’s degree in Pathology from the Department of Paramedical and Allied Health Sciences, graduating with First-Class Honours.
Kabir is one of over a thousand students sponsored under the Kano State Government’s foreign scholarship program by Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
During the award presentation, Professor Misra praised Kabir’s conduct and academic achievements.
“Kabir Sani has demonstrated not only academic excellence but also a rare commitment to knowledge, teamwork, and discipline. He stands out among his peers and has brought pride not just to Mewar University but also to his home country,” he said.
In his response, Kabir acknowledged the importance of his support system.
“This award means a lot to me. It reflects the hard work I put in and the support I received from my sponsors and loved ones. I hope it inspires other young people back home to aim high and stay focused,” he said.
It will be recalled that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently granted automatic employment to 54 postgraduate students who benefited from the foreign scholarship program and studied health-related courses in India.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the state’s investment in education and healthcare aims to enhance service delivery in Kano and that retaining skilled professionals is crucial to achieving that goal.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining the foreign scholarship program initiated by former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“When we assumed office, we promised to sustain this initiative. Out of the 1,000 beneficiaries, 418 were sent to India and Uganda last year. All have graduated, while the remaining 68 students in India are expected to return by April,” he said.
